Antique, late 19th century - early 20th century, traditional Afghan choora (chhura) dagger of characteristic form with flared pommel and bone grips, the tangband and bolsters of engraved white metal / silver with engraved floral detailing and painting in red and black. Strong T-shaped single-edged straight blade of high quality steel.

The blade remains in nice condition with only minor staining. The wooden scabbard is covered with decorated sheet brass finely embossed with floral and geometric patterns. A beautiful example of lethal weapon designed for the specific purpose.

The Choora is the traditional knife of the Mahsud, a tribe of the Khyber pass area between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This dagger is a member of the family of knives known by various names. Although this knife is believed to be from Afghanistan, the same type of knife, called a Pesh-Kabz or Pishqabz (foregrip), is also found in Northern India, Persia and central Asia.

This type of weapon was widely used in all areas of North India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other central Asian countries. They all have a similar shape of blade and differ in the shape of hilt and decoration. The blade of a Pesh-Kabz / Choora is one its most striking features.

The blade has a T cross-section, with a pronounced back and a strong, slender tip. As a rule, the blade is straight. Total length of the dagger with sheath: 23.5 cm (9 1/4). Length of the blade with handle: 22.5 cm (8 3/4).

Length of the blade without handle: 13 cm (5 1/8). The item is in the UK.
